Happy Easter - now with chicks!

Since the chicken tractor Daddy is building is almost finished, we decided it was a great time to get the baby chicks. After all, spring is here!

Kiernen has been a great chick caregiver. He checks on them at least a dozen times a day, quietly tiptoeing into the room so as not to wake them - they sleep a LOT. He makes sure we all wash our hands after we touch them, and that we keep all the surfaces and doorknobs clean as well. 

It is so interesting to watch them herd together and like other birds, follow the lead of one: when one eats, they all eat. Thy snuggle up together and sleep at the same time - which is really most of the day. They are never far from each other. They seem disturbed at being separated (like when we need to check their bums for poop obstructions). 

So these chicks, and also we got caterpillars for the butterfly enclosure we bought last year. We're watching them get fatter each day and every day Kiernen checks them and asks, "Have they formed a chrysalis yet?"
